Western Region Alphas support Big Brothers Big Sisters of America

The Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Beta Psi Lambda Chapter (BPL), Los Angeles, CA were on hand to witness a million-dollar event in Beverly Hills.

Well… $1,007,373 to be exact.

That’s the total amount raised at auction Friday night, October 19, at the Beverly Hilton for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles (BBBSLA) when they honored outstanding members of the Los Angeles community at their annual Big Bash Gala.

The amount was a new record for BBBSLA, with attendees bidding on silent auction items ranging from sports and music memorabilia to vacation packages, wine, art, and more. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was well represented. There were also donations throughout the evening, with guests digging deep to donate to a worthy cause. Bro. Fred Jackson, Southern California District Director, hit it big, winning two (2) wine tasting trips and a five (5) day trip to Cancun.

Bro. Byron G. Mobley, Sr., Western Region Chair, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and current BBBSLA Board Director was truly appreciative and pleased with the support from the Alphamen in attendance, namely, Bro. Clint Crawford, Bro. Edward Wandrick, Bro. Mark Henderson and Bro. Fred Jackson. The Alphamen were accompanied by their significant others and made the most of an outstanding event.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America program was implemented during the fraternity’s 1990 General Convention. The two organizations signed an agreement to assist each other in reaching their goals of working toward the positive development of African-American youth and empowering their families and communities. The focus of this partnership is to:

•             Increase the number of African-American children exposed to positive African-American adult role models
•             Increase minority representation on local Big Brothers/Big Sisters’ Board of Directors
•             Increase positive perceptions of both organizations in the African-American community
•             Expose African-American boys of Big Brothers/Big Sisters programs to positive Alpha role models and the programs of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
